Dust off your bow and arrow, because Cupid is coming to town, folks! Remember Valentine’s Day in 3rd grade? In my class, everybody got some grocery store Valentines (Garfield and the Smurfs were pretty popular), and we all ran around depositing them in a little paper sack each kid had taped to his desk. I. Loved. It.
Well, I had a request recently to come up with some DIY Valentines for grown-ups (I’m allegedly one of those), so we’re jumping into loveland. I pondered for a while, came up with a few different styles, and hauled out the old craft box so I could get to work. Today, we have a glittery garland that I’ve totally fallen for.
You’ll need a printer with a sheet of white paper, scissors, glue, glitter, a glue gun, and some baker’s twine or embroidery thread.
First, print out “I Love You” in all caps in a font of your choice (I used Arial Black, size 100 pt.). Cut out your letters. Then, spread a generous amount of glue on the front of each letter, and sprinkle with glitter (and by sprinkle, I mean douse).
If you find that after the letters dry some of the glitter has fallen off, just do some spot retouching with more glue and glitter. Next, organize your letters glitter side down and backwards, and lay out the length of string that you’d like.
Put a small dot of hot glue at the top of your first letter, and sink the string in. Repeat for each letter, ensuring that they’re the correct distance apart.
When you’ve finished, tie a little loop at each end of the string to hang (optional). Hang up your Valentine garland and admire!
You could use these a zillion ways! I picture them as a little Valentine greeting on the bathroom or hallway mirror, or draped on the back of your honey’s favorite chair, or even strung on a hanger in the closet as a morning surprise. How would you use it?
