This little post has long been one of our reader fan faves! I was pretty much just looking for excuses to decorate for spring when I came up with these DIY Easter eggs using washi tape.

If you’ve been around these parts for a while, these photos might look new to you — we finally recreated the project now that we have upgraded camera equipment and way better light to work with.

We originally shot this project in our tiny New York apartment with two little windows looking out onto an air shaft! I was excited to revisit this, beef up the tutorial, and share some new pretty images.

No-Dye Ideas to Decorate Easter Eggs

I love no-dye options because they are just so much cleaner and simpler!

Especially with little kids, dye is fun but can be a huge mess.

But this easy DIY Easter egg idea substitutes washi tape for any messy dye. You can use the washi on hard-boiled eggs or faux eggs, and it adheres perfectly to both types.

Before you dive in, check out lots of other Easter ideas here!

What Is Washi Tape?

Washi tape is an amazing and versatile craft supply to keep on hand!

Washi is a decorative tape made from traditional Japanese paper. It’s pefect for crafting, journaling, and stationery use.

Washi is made from highly renewable resources (as opposed to western paper, which is made from tree pulp, it’s made from Japanese shrubs). It’s biodegradable, too, so you can recycle it.

Although we use a cutting technique on the tape for these DIY Easter eggs, washi is easy to tear by hand when you need a piece. It’s a great craft supply for kids as well.

Supplies You’ll Need

Materials

Make Time: 5 Minutes Per Egg

Make DIY Easter Eggs with Striped Washi Tape

  1. To make the striped Easter egg, start by pulling out a length of washi tape approximately 6″ long. Use small scissors to cut the washi tape into long thirds.
  2. Then trim the thirds off so you have long thin strips of tape. Place the strips around the egg at random, in whatever pattern you prefer.
  3. Continue this process until you are happy with the pattern.

DIY Easter Eggs with a Confetti Washi Tape Pattern

  1. To make the confetti-patterned Easter egg, start the process in a similar fashion to the striped egg. Pull out a length of washi tape and use the scissors to cut it in half longways (rather than in thirds). This will create smaller pieces of tape to look like confetti sprinkled on the egg.
  2. From each long piece, cut small rectangles of tape and place them around the egg at random.

Decorate a Polka Dot Easter Egg with Washi Tape

  1. To get the look of the oversized polka dots on this egg, start by layering two lengths of washi tape over one another, so that they overlap on the long edge by about 1/4″.
  2. Once you have this extra wide piece of combined washi tapes, use your scissors to cut out small circles from the strip of tape.
  3. Alternatively, if you have a small circle hole punch you can try to punch the circles out. However, we found that our punches didn’t work well with the washi tape because of the adhesive, and that cutting was just as efficient.
  4. Place the circles on your egg, trying to alternate the orientation of the patterns on the tape so that they don’t all face one direction.

Decorate a Geometric Easter Egg with Washi Tape

  1. For this egg, you’ll cut small triangles out of one long strip of washi tape. Your triangles can be varying shapes and sizes; what’s more important is that you try to keep the distance between the triangles as you place them on the egg somewhat uniform.
  2. Go slow and steady with this one, placing the triangles one by one as you assess and visualize the size or shape of triangle that you’ll need next to keep filling in your egg.
  3. Continue cutting small triangles until your egg is complete!

just about any online store web sites explaining the actual product or service information using elements.
There are hundreds to choose from, allowing you the
choice of matching the type with your own health and
fitness goals. Glucomannan is among the most active
